Good employment. In Greater Manchester it’s more than just a buzzword, it's a movement.

Good employment means fair pay, job security and a supportive work environment. It's about creating workplaces that truly value their employees – where a culture of mutual respect leads to greater productivity.

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter sets out to help to support employers to deliver good jobs with opportunities for people to progress and develop and ensure a thriving and productive economy in all parts of Greater Manchester.

“With major economic challenges and changes to the way we all work, good employment is more important than ever. Our vision is to create a place where every job is a good job. Together we can build an economy where businesses thrive, and every worker is valued and respected." - Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Throughout #GoodEmploymentWeek, we've seen organisations step up, taking strides towards better employment practices. It's been a week of learning, sharing and celebrating the commitment of good employment practices.

But the week also focused on engaging employees; asking ‘How Good is Your Job? Last week’s activities were designed to inform employees on what a good job can feel like and at the same time empower them to discuss their work with their employer.

Our short online interactive quiz provides employees with resources and support across the Charter’s seven characteristics of good employment.

Ian MacArthur, Director of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter said: “Our first ever Good Employment Week has been a festival and celebration of good employment practice across the city region. It has also hopefully raised expectations of employees and employers to rise to the challenge of making Greater Manchester the capital of good employment.”

As we reflect on the past week, it's clear that Good Employment Week has been about creating a positive change. It's been about raising awareness and understanding of good employment practices.

From bus and tram spotters to our amazing supportive Partners, Charter Network and citizens across the city-region, thank you for being involved in the conversation of good employment and being part of Good Employment Week 2023.

Together, let's make Greater Manchester a great place to work.
