Good Employment Week presents a unique opportunity for all of Greater Manchester to participate in discussions and debates about what constitutes good employment and why it is vital for the continued growth of the city-region.
The week brings together employers of all sizes from all sectors to celebrate and share best practice and provides a platform for others to engage with the Charter movement and help build its momentum.
Over the past three years, Good Employment Week has also provided an opportunity to engage directly with employees and citizens, informing and empowering them to understand what good employment should look and feel like, no matter who they work for. At the Charter, we believe it is vital to create demand for good employment opportunities as well as working on the supply of good jobs. In 2026, as the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter looks to evolve beyond its established characteristics and explore the cultures that underpin great workplaces, our campaign focus is on one simple question: What does your Work Feel Like? Through our interactive word cloud activity, people across Greater Manchester will be invited to share the words that best describe their experience of work, helping us build a picture of workplace culture across the city-region.
Established in 2019, the Charter has been in the vanguard of raising the bar for good employment standards. As workplace expectations continue to evolve, our challenge is to help employers across Greater Manchester learn from the Charter network and understand how good employment practices can be embedded to create positive workplace cultures and realise the associated business benefits. We know that organisations are operating in challenging circumstances, but we also have many examples from across the Charter movement that demonstrate how investing in people, wellbeing and culture can improve productivity, engagement, retention and organisational performance.
During Good Employment Week 2026, we will continue to make this case and showcase examples of best practice through our events, activities and publications. By bringing together employers, employees and partners, we have a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of what good work feels like and ensure Greater Manchester remains at the forefront of the good employment agenda.
